LWLU – Belated Truth

The harsh winds started to die down at some point while Sara sat on the floor of the carriage house, pondering what the purpose of a carriage house was supposed to be. It was an absurd thing to think about – especially now, given everything that had gone on over the last two days – yet it was oddly comforting, pondering how some common things from the past could be so utterly nonsensical when held under modern scrutiny. It also gave her a solid distraction from the way the stable walls of her life were crumbling around her.

Of all people, why did Paul have to be letting her down? [Read more...]

Foresight is Flawless – Chapter 104

It didn’t take me long to find another entrance that was unlocked. Gun drawn, I crept into the clubhouse until the scene came into view. From where I stood, I had a complete view of them, though I remained hidden from view.

“I guess you never knew that bit of history, did you, Ramsey?” Sauters prodded. [Read more...]

Foresight is Flawless – Chapter 103

Survival.

Surviving was the only thing that mattered. There was more at stake than just her own life, or the fact Eric was currently holding the gun on Price. If she couldn’t convince Eric all she’d just said was truth then neither she nor Price would ever get to know the life they’d created. [Read more...]

LWLU – Cruel Intentions

In the years since her sixteenth birthday, Sara had come to expect that her birthdays would be a disaster. Granted, she thought the extent of this party’s horrors would be the table fire and Michael’s games. In even her worst nightmares, she wouldn’t have imagined getting trapped in the house with Paul’s vengeful ex-girlfriend would be on the agenda for this birthday.

But it did explain a great deal about the blonde’s behavior since her arrival yesterday. [Read more...]

Foresight is Flawless – Chapter 101

How quickly the proud fell, Eric mused, enjoying the whimper of pain low in Skylar’s throat. Ramsey’s look of terror was especially satisfying. It was odd for him to see his brother care about someone else more than he cared about himself.

The fact that it was Skylar was unfortunate. [Read more...]

Foresight is Flawless – Chapter 100

“I didn’t realize I was expected.”

Price turned slowly, caution in his eyes. “I thought you were Eric.”

“You seem to mistake me for him a lot.”

“I guess I do.” [Read more...]

LWLU – Empty Soul

Sara would’ve breathed a sigh of relief when Paul and Carly rushed to her aid, but she was so cold and tired that taking more than her slow, shallow breaths was too much of an effort. She would be safe now. She let her eyes slip closed, guarding against the bitter winds now that she knew she wouldn’t have to worry about getting raped tonight. [Read more...]

Foresight is Flawless – Chapter 99

It shouldn’t have surprised me that the room was empty when I got out of the shower. I really should have guessed that Skylar’s odd behavior all day had everything to do with what happened after I stepped out of the realty office. The fact that I held a one-sided conversation through the bathroom door for five minutes before I figured out no one was on the other side pissed me off.

I was better at my job than this. [Read more...]

Foresight is Flawless – Chapter 98

Caldwell walked back into the room as Skylar was replacing the handset. He shot her a dirty look. “Who were you talking to?”

“I called to see if they had anything to help settle my stomach.” It was a lie – a flimsy one at that.

He seemed to buy it. Nodding, “Jenna said you should try crackers and club soda.” [Read more...]

Foresight is Flawless – Chapter 97

I was fed up by the time I’d called through all of my contacts for the fifth time this afternoon. Every time I thought I might be onto something, a door would get slammed in my face and I’d be right back where I started. Sauters and Vanderbilt were probably still in this town, but I’d be damned if I could find them. They could be sitting in the next bungalow and I’d never find them.

Hell, Skylar could have them under the bed and I still wouldn’t realize it. [Read more...]

Foresight is Flawless – Chapter 96

It had been a waste of time for Jenna to bother showing up for work today. Most of her cases were already assigned to other prosecutors while she was out over the last week and she’d barely been able to concentrate to the one she still had. If she kept this up then she’d really have to hope her new book stayed in hardcover for a while before it got sent to paperback and was then forgotten.

All of this was Jackson’s fault. [Read more...]

Foresight is Flawless – Chapter 94

I stepped outside to answer the phone once I saw that it was Brandon. Right now, he was my only open line of communication to Jenna. “Caldwell.”

“I’ve got good news for you.” [Read more...]

Foresight is Flawless – Chapter 93

Once Caldwell stepped outside, the men in the room went back to what they’d been doing as though Skylar wasn’t even there. That was fine with her. She wanted a chance to have a little chat with Scarlet, woman-to-woman.

Though she didn’t expect a man to notice anything, she’d thought a trained field agent would have picked up on the woman’s behavior and realized something was up. [Read more...]

Foresight is Flawless – Chapter 92

The early part of our day was a bust. Vanderbilt hadn’t been at his lake house, but I never really expected he’d just sit there and wait around for me to come pick him up. The early morning humidity didn’t help my mood any. Even dressed in cargo shorts and a golf shirt, I was miserable.

I’d thought the Texas summers were bad. Damn. [Read more...]

LWLU – Secret Plans

Michael looked uncomfortable, clearly not wanting to answer Nika’s question. Considering he’d seemed so adamant to tell Sara about it this morning, his hesitance was strange. Whatever it was, he must not want Nika to know.

Interesting. [Read more...]
