The Freelancer – Chapter 90

All the highways in Grand Prairie, Arlington, Irving, and Dallas were shut down, but the Addison tollroad was ignored.  Of course, Chad was long gone before they thought to do anything.  He could anticipate everything now before it happened.

The FBI agent was easy to lure to the club.  Chad saw him long before he let the guy notice him.  Getting him alone in the alley was a piece of cake.  Leave a door open and watch the lab rat run through for a pellet. But he didn’t get a reward, just the sharp point of a hunting knife.  Plunging it deep into his back was much more satisfying than he dreamed possible; a definite step up from dogs and cats.

He grabbed the cell phone from him and smashed it on the ground.  “You can’t stop me now.  No one can.  Once I pick up my wife, we’ll vanish together and be happy.  Forever.”

Then he slit the guy’s throat and watched him bleed, kneeling to get a better look at the life gushing from him. He wanted to see the life drain from his eyes, but he couldn’t stay. Some things were more important.

There would be other opportunities for that…

Once he reached the condo, he was delighted to see that the other agent’s car was missing.  Killing the man who dared defile his sweet Jenna was a satisfying thought, but that would take up precious time; time that he didn’t have.  Chad slipped into the building and picked her lock with ease, but she wasn’t there.  He walked across the hall to pick another lock.

He stood over a sleeping Jenna for a long moment before shaking her awake.  Just as he hoped, she was groggy and disoriented.

“Come on, Jenna we have to go. Now.”

She sat up, fast, worried.  “What are you doing here, Chad?”  She looked around and rubbed her hands over her face.  “Where am…oh.  Where’s Jackson?”

“Jackson sent me.  We have to go.  It’s Lana.”

Chad enjoyed the look of panic that flashed through her eyes before she got to her feet and followed him to the van he started using as his mobil base of operations that night.  He also enjoyed the way her dress clung to her and revealed enough of her skin to remind him of how great she looked naked on the video.  The anticipation of tearing it off her to get an up close and personal look was maddening.

Not yet, he thought to himself.  The Fed could come back and he didn’t want any interruptions once things got started.  He’d waited years for this night and nothing was going to get in his way now.

Not even Jenna.

Once she settled in beside him, he handed her a cup of coffee to help wake her up.  He started the engine after she gulped down much of the bitter liquid.  It wouldn’t be long now before he would have everything he always wanted.

Chad would have what was rightfully his.
