The Freelancer – Chapter 83

Saturday, October 11

The day went by far too fast for me.  Collin and I agreed to meet one last time to go over our plan in the light of day.  It held up to our scrutiny and we were satisfied we were doing the right thing.  Several members of the clerical staff stayed all night, but still hadn’t come up with anything.  They had a stack of paperwork left to go through, but there was still a chance they could come up with something in time.

We decided I would oversee the team at the reunion and Collin would take the airport teams.  I knew it would be difficult to hide what I was doing from Jenna, but I didn’t have a choice in the matter.  Besides, it was too late in the game to care if she made me.  My team was prepared to take her into custody that evening if needed.

After meeting with our respective teams, Collin and I met one last time.  It was getting late and I had to get going if I was going to be back in time to change clothes.  We were ready for Blackstone.

We were ready for anything.

“I’m out of here, Collin.  My cell’s fully charged. Call me if anything happens, but remember that Jenna will be around.”

“I’ll let you know if there are any changes,” he said, then added, “Don’t be surprised if you see me on your way out.  I’m going to stop by Trista’s to let her know what’s going on with Maureen.”

I didn’t know how Collin was doing it. Even though he’d been out with her only a handful of times, I got the impression he had genuine feelings for Maureen. If Jenna were missing, I don’t know how I’d be able to function.

Then again, I’d probably have to arrest Jenna within the next 24 hours…

    Ah, yes…I have lots planned for everyone. Should be an eventful night…

    And you won’t have to wait long for a new update. Starting now, this story has a new post Monday-Thursday until it’s over. :)
