The Freelancer – Chapter 81
At five o’clock, Trista decided it was time to go home. All of the partners who weren’t in court left for the weekend hours ago. It was just as well she leave, she’d done everything that needed to be done twice already.
She made sure her desk was cleared off. If Maureen didn’t come back, Trista would need to make sure she was putting her best foot forward. There was always the hope that one of the partners could use her services. Otherwise, she’d be out of a job.
As Trista was about to turn out the lights and lock up, she remembered the earrings one of the partners gave her as an engagement gift were still in her desk. She’d wanted to wear them to the reunion the following evening, so she retrieved them from her drawer. Out of the corner of her eye she saw the envelope Jenna gave her the previous day peaking out from underneath a stack of legal briefs that needed to be sent to the County Clerk’s office on Monday.
Trista retrieved it from the stack and turned it around in her hands. Jenna was so insistent she read it, maybe she should take the time to read it now. Once she looked at her watch she realized she would be late meeting Blaine for dinner if she didn’t hurry. Jenna’s new story would have to wait. Traffic was always murder on Fridays.

Uh oh!!!….. and yet another day goes by without any help looking as if it’s coming Jenna’s way……..
Oh wow…the reunion is tomorrow night….things are about to be cranked up a notch as things come to a head…you have me on the edge of my seat here!!!!
LOVE THIS btw…..*hugs*
I know. Things would be so much simpler if Trista would just read the damn thing already.
And that reunion is speeding towards us. Who would’ve thunk a simple high school reunion would ever cause so much suspense?
