The Freelancer – Chapter 78

Trista looked up from her stack of filing when she heard the door open.  She’d hoped it would be Maureen, but she’d hoped that every time the door to the law office opened over the last four days.  Client complaints were piling up and the other partners of the firm were ready to vote Maureen out if she didn’t have a damn good reason for abandoning her work the way she had.

She let out a sigh.  It was just Jenna, probably ready to pour out some new meaningless tragedy to her.  Trista loved her friend, but she didn’t know how much more she could take right now.  It was awful of her to even think, but she liked it better when Jenna was playing the hermit.  There’d been less drama in both of their lives.

“Do you have a minute, Trista?”  Jenna asked.

“Sure.  What’s up?”

Trista could hardly wait for her response.

“I need to give you something,” Jenna said as she set a letter size envelope on Trista’s cluttered desk.

“What’s that?”

“I just finished part of my novel and I could use a second opinion.”

“I’m swamped right now, but I promise I’ll read it as soon as I get a chance.”

“Okay, Trist.  Please make sure that you do, though.  It’s really important to me,” Jenna said before leaving. “There’s a lot of truth to the fiction.”

  1. Thanks, babe.

As you can tell, Trista’s in a hurry to get to it, so I’m sure she’ll read it over any second now. ;)

  2. star7 says:

Trista better read that ASAP!!! Kick ass writing as usual chicky!

  3. Well, I have to entertain someone. :)

  4. Debbie says:

    lol…You crack me up hun!!!!!

  5. Well…Maybe she’ll rush right home and read it like a good best friend. Then she can tell Collin what’s going on and he can tell Jackson. Then everyone can live happily ever after.

But that doesn’t really sound like something I’d do. Maybe Jenna will get lucky and I was on heavy drugs when I wrote Trista’s next chapter. I mean, I don’t do drugs…but who knows? :D

  6. Debbie says:

    Mmmmmm……yeah, I wonder?? lol

  7. J. Nicole says:

Yep. Everything hinges on what Trista will do next, huh? Wonder how long it will take her to get around to it… ;)

  8. Debbie says:

Oh no!!! I hope Trista doesn’t let other paperwork bury it…..you know – out of sight – out of mind…..

Hope that since it is not ‘work related’, Trista will take it home for a little late night read…..and since Jenna has not changed the names…..I think she would get quite a shock!!!!

Especially after that cryptic comment from Jenna..Love that!!!

    Looking forward to more….*hugs*
