I was glad the profilers kept the same insane hours I did. They thought what Eddie said was crucial. As I’d expected, they said it fit the profile. They also felt it gave us a new direction to explore.
By midday, Collin and I were up to our eyeballs in paperwork.
“I can’t believe we didn’t think of this ourselves,” Collin said bitterly, tossing another stack of paper into the trash. “We could have saved countless man hours.”
I rubbed my temples. “At least we know now. I was starting to get worried we were running out of days and had no clue which terminal might be hit.”
“Starting to get worried? I don’t remember the last solid night’s sleep I’ve had. At first, I wanted to be the hero and save the day. It hit me a few days ago that this case wasn’t just about showing my boss how good I was. This is about hundreds, maybe even thousands of people who are going to die if I didn’t come through.”
“I know what you mean, Collin. It’s cases like these that make me wish I’d never left the private sector.”
I watched Collin stand up. “I need a break from this. I’m going to try McNamara’s office again and see if he’s out of that meeting yet. We need him to run that query for us. What we’re doing is taking too long.”
I realized Collin was right after he left me alone with the mounds of paperwork. I didn’t want to admit it to him, but I was furious I hadn’t thought of this myself. We knew Blackstone had a troubled past. Why hadn’t we considered his attack wasn’t going to be on the airport itself, but on specific people who would be there? The profilers always impressed me with their insight, but I was floored when they put it together so quickly after hearing Eddie talk about the incident.
Blackstone was after the people who caused his grandmother’s heart attack. It was so simple once I really thought about it. If only stopping him could be that easy.
Collin and I spent hours comparing the football roster to airline manifests, but we hadn’t found a single match yet. Conveniently, McNamara was in a meeting all morning. We needed to know which flights they were on so that we could set our trap.
At this point, we didn’t have anything solid on Blackstone. We could put him at the scene of the explosion in Houston, but we couldn’t prove he caused it. The only credible person we had to testify was dead. Jenna was the only link I had left to him, but I doubted she would testify against him. Hell, she was probably in it as deep as he was. We had to catch him in the act if we had any shot of making the charges stick..
If only I knew what Jenna gave him at the first drop she’d made. It could be pivotal.

You don’t have to register. I’m testing how the password protected posts work. Once I see how it comes out in the feed, I’ll delete. Most likely, that’s how I’m going to let peeps read the novel I’m working on for publisher submission. I won’t be sticking a password on any of the Freelancer or Love Will Lead Us Chapters.
Sorry for the confusion.
