The Freelancer – Chapter 74

Thursday, October 9

Chad paced around his apartment aimlessly.  It appeared from last night’s events that his plan failed.  Why wouldn’t this guy give her up?  His plan should’ve been foolproof.

Of course, he knew he’d be followed to the park.  Chad allowed them to follow him because it served his purpose.  After watching that other FBI guy put wire taps on Jenna’s phones, he wanted them to know she was leaving something for him.  The plan was for her little boyfriend to find out about it and think she was working with him.  Success should have meant they wouldn’t be in bed together when he’d tuned in.

Knowing that Jenna’s phones were tapped gave Chad another idea.  She’d served her purpose to the letter by getting him what he needed.  Why shouldn’t he expect her to do it again?

Chad knew his phone was tapped, but didn’t care.  It would be even more damning for her to get a call straight from his number.  He smiled while dialing her number.

After a few rings Jenna picked up.

“Good morning, sweetness.”

He took pleasure in the way she shot upright and glanced over as if to make sure the Fed was still asleep.

“What do you want?” she whispered as she got out of bed and walked into the hallway with the cordless phone.

“Don’t you think you should be nicer to me?”

He heard her shudder before answering.  “Yes.”

“I need you to get something else for me.  Will that be a problem?”

“No.” Her even tone of voice would play well on the FBI’s recording of the call.

Chad enjoyed toying with her.  She was so stupid that she was playing right along with him without even knowing it.  He couldn’t wait to let her know he was behind everything.

“Get paper.”

After a moment, Jenna said, “Okay.  I’m ready.”

Chad rattled off a list of chemicals he needed and a few he wouldn’t to throw off the FBI…not that they posed much challenge so far.  When he was done, he asked, “Did you get all that?”

“Yes, but I don’t know what half this stuff is.”

“You don’t need to.”  Chad gave her an address.  “Go see Nathaniel and he’ll get you everything you’ll need.”

“Okay,” Jenna said.

“Go now.”

“It’s four in the morning.”

“I know.  I want you to make the drop by six.  Same location as before.”

“Okay.”

“Don’t forget to take your checkbook with you,” Chad said before he hung up.

He knew he already paid for everything, but loved the look of panic that came across her face when he said it.  He lingered over the sight of her dressing before calling Nathaniel.

When he was done and certain she left, he called Jenna’s condo again.  He wanted to make certain her FBI boyfriend knew she wasn’t there.

  1. You think that’s evil? Just you wait! :P

  2. star7 says:

Chad is evil!!! I’m hoping he ends up dying, slow and painfull!!

  3. Debbie says:

I had a good one also. One of those ‘last minute/spur of the moment’ things, and, as is usually the case, turned out great. No-one has planned anything, so everyone landed here, we all had a nice dinner, and then went into town and saw a band. The band had to finish at midnight – due to the loser neighbours that have no life, and can’t even suck it up for ONE night of the year!!, and so we were home by about 12.30. So…a great night had by all!!!!!!

Glad you had a great one!!!!!!

    • J. Nicole says:

Midnight? Ugh. Will the loser neighbors turn into pumpkins or something if they stay up one little night of the year? At least you had fun. Sometimes, I think spur of the moment plans are the best kind. :D

  4. Debbie says:

This sure isn’t gonna go well for poor Jenna…. And Chad, twisting the knife a little more calling the condo again just to rub Jacksons’ nose in it….Not nice Chad!!!

But Jackson bugged Jennas cell from his place, so Chad doesn’t know about that huh???

Great chapter as usual hun…. looking forward to more….xxxx

Ps: Hope you had a FANTASTIC New Year!!!!!!!

    • J. Nicole says:

Yep…just when she thought it was over and was mentally planning her move to DC with Jackson. Wonder if this will set Jackson off into another one of his pissy moods like before?

I had a great New Year. Stayed up all night playing a video game with hubby. Yep, we’re giant dorks and I totally don’t care because it’s still more fun than I ever have at NYE parties. :D

      Hope yours was awesome, too.
