“Blackstone is on the move,” Collin told me as I got in his car around nine o’clock on Monday morning.
“Yeah?”
“He left through the front door this time. I should know if he’s heading anywhere important soon. Oh,” Collin reached for a file on the backseat before continuing, “I got something from the tail you put on Daniel Whitman.”
I opened the file and realized why I didn’t like the guy. The first page was a computer printout from a surveillance camera showing him cozying up to a blonde. The guy missed his daughter’s birthday party to meet up with another woman. That was low, but not surprising. He seemed like the kind who would keep a girlfriend in every town he flew to. Did Elaine know about it and keep quiet to maintain her current standard of living?
The rest of the file contained copies of restaurant and hotel receipts, none of which shocked me either. The last page confirmed he visited a casino in Atlantic City on his way home. I let out a long, low whistle when I saw the bottom line.
‘That was my reaction,” Collin said.
“How do you lose fifty grand in a few hours?”
“I don’t know about that, but I checked his financials.”
“And?”
Collin shook his head. “It’s not pretty. It looks like he’s a compulsive gambler. Most of his 401k has been wiped out as a result. The sad thing is that I don’t think his wife has a clue.”
I closed the file and faced him. “How’s that possible, Collin? I thought that Texas was a community property state. Shouldn’t she have to sign off on any substantial withdrawals from a retirement account?”
“The blonde you saw on the first page is a Notary Public. Elaine’s signature appears to be a notarized forgery,” Collin answered as he parked in one of DFW’s numerous parking garages. “Ready to meet the wizard, Jackson?”
“As long as you don’t forget where you parked again.”
“Keep it up and I’ll leave your ass here, Caldwell.”

yay!! I’m all caught up. awesome as usual!!
So…Daniel huh!!!…..’dipping his wick’ in probably every city he flys to………Gotta feel for Elaine though – if she really is clueless, it’s gonna be a big shock for her. And a forgery – that would be devastating!!!
Mmmmm…so why are they at the airport?? I take it they didn’t follow Chad there. I get that they are there to see the ‘wizard’, so I am looking forward to finding out how this all gonna play out……..
Can’t wait for Wednesday!!!!!!!!!!xxx
Debbie – Yeah…poor Elaine. Probably not going to be a good thing when she finds out everything.
Well, remember that Jackson’s there in the first place because of the threatened attack on the airport. He and Collin are actually going to do some police work for once.
Star – I’m glad you were able to catch up.
