Chad looked at the clock on his dashboard for what must have been the tenth time that hour. He’d been waiting for his chance to get back into Jenna’s condo to replace the malfunctioning camera. When he saw the Fed Jenna was screwing leave her condo a few hours ago he assumed they would be going somewhere soon. After slouching down in his car for more than three hours, he learned he was mistaken.
Finally, he observed them leaving the building with Trista. After waiting a respectable period of time to ensure they weren’t coming back, Chad grabbed his bag and crossed the parking lot to her building. As before, the lock was easily picked.
Once they were together, he’d make sure there were better locks. No one would be getting in to get her. No one.
No sooner than the camera was replaced and he was heading for the front door when it opened. Chad froze, chiding himself for not locking the door behind him. He would have to think fast to get out of this one.
“Hey Jenna, I think I left my PDA…Who are you? Wait. I know you. You’re a friend of Jenna and Trista. Chad, right?”
Damn the luck, Chad thought to himself. It would have to be Maureen. He disliked her when he’d stopped by her office to say hello to Trista. Granted, few lawyers existed he liked; they had too good an eye for details.
And they never forgot a name.
“Yeah. You’re Trista’s boss, right?”
“Uh-huh. Is Jenna here?”
“No,” Chad responded as his escape plan began to come together in his mind.
“Should you be here? Jenna’s a private person. She doesn’t like strangers in her home unattended.”
Chad was enraged and took a step towards her.
“I’m not a stranger. Jenna and I are to be married,” he replied without emotion.
Panic flashed through Maureen’s eyes and Chad took great pleasure in her knowledge she was in danger. Things escalated so quickly with Alex he hadn’t had the opportunity to revel in his fear. But it was different now. He was in complete control of this situation.
“It was good to see you again, Chad, but I have to be going if I’m going to get to the club in time to meet everyone.”
Chad allowed her to turn and open the door. He wanted her to breathe in the fresh air of freedom before she died. It was sweeter that way. Knowing she must think she would live long enough to warn Jenna was intoxicating to him.
He reached into his bag and pulled out a wrench. Locking the door behind him, Chad followed Maureen down the stairs. Once she reached the first floor, Maureen sprinted to the door, but he was too quick for her, too smart for her. He slammed the door closed with his hand as she was able to open it. Before she could move, he smashed the wrench against the back of her skull with a satisfying crunch.
Problem solved.

Thanks Hun – and will do!!!!!
The next two weeks worth of posts are now loaded and scheduled…for both stories.
Let me know if you run across any more dead links. I’m always in the admin side of the site so nothing looks the same to me as it will for y’all…Guess I’d better pop ’round to the other side more often.
Hello there Jen. I have been reading this great fic whenever I get the chance since coming over to this site from PBFF. I noticed that chapters 28, and 31 are not available. Have I missed any of the story by not being able to read these?? I am currently up to chapter 55 which is also not available. I would love to read the rest of this, but if the chapters have not been posted as yet, then that is ok too. Just let me know when I can continue…..
This a very entertaining story – getting very ‘edge of the seat’ stuff atm…..Well done…Cheers!!!
Uh-oh. Sorry about that. I had a link problem, but it’s fixed now. Thanks for letting me know. I wouldn’t say 28 and 31 are the two most crucial chapters or anything, but they may be worth hopping back over to read. Chapter 55 isn’t available yet. You’re totally caught up on the story at this point. It’s being announced over the weekend, but new chapters start Monday with updates at least twice a week.
I’m glad you’re enjoying the story. It’s the first full-length novel I ever wrote so there’s a definite difference between it and my current style. Ooh…and just so you know, the plot’s about to twist and pick up even more. Better hold onto your seat!
