The Freelancer – Chapter 52

Jenna splashed cool water on her face in an attempt to regain her composure.  She’d lost her mind this time, of that she was certain.  Jackson had thoroughly made love to her and she’d fled the room like a complete psycho.

“Idiot,” she said to her reflection in the mirror.

It was never like that before for Jenna.  Nothing could have prepared her to get so lost in the moment, to so completely lose herself to Jackson.  She couldn’t think, much less know how to react to that.  The longer their bodies stayed entwined in silence, the more time she had to realize how nervous she felt.

Perhaps waiting out the silence wouldn’t have been such a bad idea.  The weight of his body on top of her felt…right.  Was it supposed to feel that way?  Had it ever felt so meant to be with Tony?

In the ever-building wall of silent tension that ensued, Jenna realized one of them had to say something at some point.  A few moments before, it wouldn’t have been such a big deal, but now…Once her mind started going to the destined to be together place, well, that was it for her.  Her mind was spinning out of control, jumping to conclusions that existed only in her head.  Now, either she’d have to break the silence or Jackson would.  And if he was the first to speak then she’d have no choice other than to respond.

But how were you supposed to respond to the man who just took you to places you never knew existed?  Escaping to the solitude of the bathroom was the only option that made any sense.

From the way he knew just how to touch her, how to kiss her, to get the response he wanted, Jenna could tell he was far more experienced than she.  In a separate league, really.  Maybe she would get lucky and he’d slip out if she stayed in the bathroom long enough.  That way, she wouldn’t have to face him until she’d figured out what to say.

There was a soft tap at the door.  “Are you alright, Jenna?”

No such luck.  She cleared her throat.  “I’m fine.”

“Can I come in?”

“No.”

Jenna heard him sigh through the door before asking, “Did I hurt you?”

The concern in his voice touched her.  She was about to open the door when she realized she was stark naked.  The conversation about to take place required she have some level of confidence, confidence she wouldn’t get without putting something on first.  Jenna wrapped her robe around her and opened the door.  “You didn’t hurt me.”

He reached out and touched her face.  “What did I do?”

Jenna gazed at him, trying to figure out what to say.  He was so handsome that her mind went blank.  Though his boxers were back on he was still naked otherwise.  It took Jenna a moment to drag her eyes back to his.  “You didn’t do anything wrong.”

“Then what is it?”

The look of concern in his eyes broke her heart so Jenna turned away.  “I just felt ah, uh, awkward.”

She felt his hands on her shoulders applying a gentle pressure.  “What do you have to feel awkward about?”

Jenna turned to face him.  “We slept together.”

A grin played at the corner of his lips.  “Actually, we hadn’t got around to the sleeping part yet.”

Her cheeks flushed.  “I was a virgin when I went away to college,” she blurted out.

Jackson looked confused.  “I don’t understand what that has to do with anything.”

She took a deep breath to steady herself.  “Yeah, I guess you wouldn’t.  Never mind.”

Jenna tried to turn away again, but he stopped her.  “Just because I don’t understand doesn’t mean I don’t want to.”

“Okay.”  She blew out a breath.  “I knew the moment I was accepted to Harvard that I was going to law school so I didn’t make a lot of time for guys when I got there.  I didn’t make any time, actually.  You know, other things were always more important than dating.  Law school is intense anywhere, but it’s especially bad at Harvard because they consider themselves to be the best.”  Jenna realized she was babbling, but she couldn’t seem to stop herself and get to the point.  “Between case studies and term papers there was never any time.”

“Jenna, what are you trying to tell me?”

“I’m trying to tell you that until tonight I’d only been with one man,” she whispered, her voice weak.

Jackson pulled her into his arms and hugged her close.  “Is that why you think things are awkward now?”

Jenna nodded.

He lifted her chin until she was looking into his eyes.  “I don’t care how much experience you have or don’t have.  I just want to be with you.  There’s no reason for you to be uncomfortable with me.”

“I’ve only known you for a week.”

“And?”

“And nothing.”  Jenna pulled away.  “I’ve known you for a week and you’ve already seen me naked.  It’s embarrassing.”

Jackson appeared thoughtful.  “You know, it was dark in there and you’re wearing your robe now so I can’t tell if you have anything to be embarrassed about.”

Jenna didn’t know how to respond to that so she remained quiet.

He reached out and untied her robe.  Jenna didn’t resist when he pushed it from her shoulders.  Jackson sucked in a breath as he looked at her.  “I’m not seeing anything here to be embarrassed about.  Your body is perfect.”

“You don’t understand.”

He grinned.  “Oh, I get it.”  He reached out again and stroked her cheek.  “I see the problem now.”

Jenna looked on in confusion as Jackson turned on the faucet in the shower.  “What do you mean you see the problem now?” she demanded.  She turned her attention from him to her naken body.  Was there something wrong with it?  What probably did he see with her?

“You still want me and you think you haven’t known me long enough yet to know how to tell me you want another go.  Well, that’s alright because I don’t mind one bit.”

He disappeared from the room for a moment.  When he returned, he set a few condoms on the edge of the bathtub and removed his boxers.  After testing the water temperature with his hand he turned to Jenna and asked, “What are you waiting for?”

“For you to tell me what you think you’re doing.”

Jackson moved close to her.  “Well, first I thought we might take a quick shower, then I plan to go down on you.”  Something in his eyes danced in the most micheivous and delicious manner.  “After that I’m going to make love to you…I haven’t thought much farther ahead than that, but I know it’s going to be over and over until you’re smiling again.”

Jenna was stunned.  This was a side of Jackson she’d never seen.  He was being cocky and arrogant and…damned if it wasn’t turning her on.

“Don’t you think that you might be presuming too much?”

He cocked his head to the side.  “How’s that?”

“You’re assuming I want to have sex with you again.”

“Are you saying that you don’t?”

“Maybe.”

Jackson raised an eyebrow.  “Maybe isn’t going to cut it here, sweetheart..”  His lips ravaged hers until her bones liquefied.  When her body trembled, she felt him grin against her lips.  “That’s what I thought.  If you don’t want this then tell me now.”

Jenna gave up on playing it cool.  She allowed herself to be led into the steamy shower, careful to avoid getting her hair too close to the spray.  He angled the nozzle to help avoid her hair and pulled her under the water with him, kissing her with tender care.  Understanding swirled with the desire hazing her mind.  It wasn’t that he was geing arrogant; he was taking her mind off her shyness.  Once out of the way, he reverted back to the same man who had made her fall in love.

“Are you still mad at me, Jenna?”

“I never said I was.”

“You didn’t have to.  I could tell I pissed you off.”

It was her turn to smile.  “Looks like you’ll have to make it up to me.”

“With pleasure,” he replied, reaching for her body wash and sponge.

Jackson proceeded to make it up to her with his soapy fingers, teasing her until she couldn’t remember how to think.  He followed that up by doing something erotic with that clever mouth of his.  Jenna was grateful for the tiled wall at her back when her orgasm ripped through her like a runaway train.  Without it, she might have ended up in the emergency room with a concussion.  She opened her eyes when she heard the sound of foil ripping.  “What are you doing?”

He grinned.  “I told you I was going to make love to you again.  Trouble is, I’m not going to make it to the bedroom – just like I knew I wouldn’t.”

She watched him with drowsy fascination as he sheathed himself in one expert stroke before his hands came to grip her by the hips, lifting her up, pressing her back against the wall.  He entered her with one deep thrust that almost had her screaming in ecstasy.  She clung to him as he moved inside her.  His kiss was liquid fire and Jenna couldn’t seem to get enough.

Of any of it.

Undiscovered sensations ripped through her body as his lazy thrusts increased in urgency.  When Jenna thought she might shatter from the intensity of it all, Jackson tore away from the kiss to brush his lips against her ear.  “Don’t close your eyes, Jenna.  Look at me and let go.”

Jenna opened her eyes and gazed into his crystal blue depths.  She remembered what he’d confessed to her before she’d fallen asleep.  She wanted to say something to him, to let him know, but it was too late.  As soon as she’d looked into those sexy eyes, his rhythm changed and the wave of tension in her body built and crested ,sweeping her away with it.

A moment later, Jackson followed her over the edge.  They both collapsed into a heap in the tub.  At first, neither of them moved, but Jenna found his lips and poured all of her love for him into her kiss, unready to confess her feelings for him.  She felt his surprise at her raw emotion and let herself be rolled to her back…well, as much on her back as she could be in the bathtub.  He was reaching for another condom when the shower began to rain pellets of ice down on them.  The hot water heater, it would seem, was no match for their passion.

Jackson managed to shut off the water then stroked her cheek with his thumb.  “How much did that kill the mood?”

She couldn’t suppress the shiver.  “I’m freezing,” she admitted.  She gazed at him from beneath lowered lashes.  “I think you‘d better take me to bed and warm me up.

“I can do that.”  He reached for the towel.  “I can definitely do that.”

    Well thank you. :)

I do think the scenes sort of lose something when I have to split them up but…hmm…didn’t have to split this one up, huh? :P
