Price’s call to Skylar had been futile. Actually, he’d tried to reach her several times over the course of the day to no avail. At first, he’d just thought she wasn’t picking up because he’d blocked the caller ID. He’d then tried to call her from his land line. When he still didn’t get a response, he found the cell phone he used when he was with her, charged it briefly and tried again.
Voicemail each and every time.
This wasn’t good and he knew it. Once he realized she was actively dodging his calls, Price asked Cherry to go check on her. Skylar was gone and Price could only assume that she was on her way to him. By now, she was probably already in Hot Springs. He could get a knock at his door at any second and find her on the other side.
Price wished he hadn’t left her a message every time he’d gotten her voicemail. He especially wished he hadn’t left that one last, desperate message after Cherry’d reported Skylar wasn’t there. It had been the truth he’d said, but he felt like a fool for leaving the damn message.
That was when he decided to go through his network of contacts. He gave everyone her description and the name and description of the agent he believed she was traveling with. If she so much as stopped for gas in a twenty mile radius, he would know about it before her credit card was authorized.
That knowledge afforded him very little comfort. Eric was bound to have at least as many connections in town as he had. If even one of those contacted him with Skylar’s whereabouts just five minutes before Price got them…He couldn’t let himself finish that thought. Nothing could happen to her; he wouldn’t let it.
The ringing of his cell phone pulled him away from his thoughts. “Good evening, Mr. Vanderbilt. This is Clara at The Villas.”
“Of course. How are you, Clara?”
“Very well, sir. I was informed you wanted to be alerted the minute a Miss Montgomery checked in.”
“And?”
“Well, sir, I didn’t catch her name, but a woman fitting her description did arrive a short time ago with another of our guests.” Price heard the clicking of a keyboard. “I believe she’s traveling with a J. Caldwell.”
“And when you say she’s traveling with him you mean…what exactly?”
Clara cleared her throat. “I mean together, sir. They were cute together. Almost nervous. I got the distinct impression this was their first night away together.”
Unless he missed his guess, it was their first night together. Period. “Which room are they staying in?”
“I moved them to bungalow 10.”
“Thank you very much for the information, Clara. You should be expecting a token of my appreciation very soon.”
Her voice grew dreamy. “I hope it’s gold and sparkly and matches the last token.”
He grinned at her tone. “I’m sure it will.”
Once he’d disconnected the call, he moved to the kitchen and poured himself a glass of lemonade. The time for wondering was over. It was time to act and get the woman he loved back. That was all that mattered.
That, and staying out of federal prison for the rest of his life.

Awwwww! Price left Skylar embarrassing declaration of love voicemails!!! Of course you won’t let her receive them being that you’re evil
I am also worried Eric might show up first… Since as Price said he might have even more connections…time to put down the lemonade Price and move it…
Skylar and Jackson better not be in any compromising positions *scowls*
You’ve made my Monday with a Price chapter though
If only he’d done that a little sooner. Might have spared them both a lot of unnecessary drama. I’m not *that* evil. As long as Skylar doesn’t die before she gets some alone time with the phone, I’ll let her check her messages.
In his defense, it’s probably really good lemonade.
Compromising positions? You mean like with her panties carelessly flung onto a nearby lamp while she’s in bed with Jackson showing him why yoga is the single most useful exercise class for women to take? Surely I wouldn’t write that. Would I? Guess we’ll find out on Wednesday.
LOL. NO! She is only allowed to share her yoga poses with Price! I am thinking it’s more likely Jackson got a hard slap across the face…I hope…and Jackson might be a clueless guy (when it comes to understanding the female mind) but I think he’d have to have lost his mind completely to do naughty things with Skylar the first day he is away from Jenna.
I’m sure Price won’t be too amused with the cozy bungalow/king sized bed arrangements though
Looking super duper forward to Wed! Especially with the possibility of Price/Skylar/Jackson (and hopefully not Eric….ahhh!) Coming face to face!
Awwww…come on. Based on the conversation with his sister, Jackson’s probably had more than his fair share of bendy coeds. He would probably really appreciate Skylar’s level of flexibility.
Besides, it wouldn’t be totally un-guy-like to hook up with a random chick after a fight/break up. It could be time to accept that Jackson isn’t totally the stand-up guy you’ve been led to believe he is for the last 2.75 books…
*shrugs* If my boyfriend left me sitting in the cold dirt and never bothered to call me, I’d be hooking up with the hot federal agent after three months of complete blow-off silence. Totally his own fault if he doesn’t like what he finds when he gets there. (And he won’t, by the way. Just going to go ahead and confirm that he WILL find something unsettling.)
