My cell phone rang as I was on my way home to check on Jenna.
“Where are you, Caldwell?” Brandon demanded without preamble.
“I’m leaving Miss Montgomery’s and heading home. Why?”
“I’m only a few blocks from there. Meet me at the café on Frankford and the Tollway.”
“Why?”
“Just be there.”
I tossed my cell phone into the passenger seat out of frustration. As if dealing with Banks and Montgomery wasn’t trying enough, but now I had to put up with his moody ass. This was not shaping up to be the day I’d hoped it would be.
To add to my annoyance, Dinsley wasn’t there when I arrived. I found a booth near the back of the café and ordered a cup of coffee. As I sipped it, I replayed the conversation with Skylar in my head. She was about ready to crack, of that I was certain. It looked as though she wanted to tell me everything, but she’d held back. I could only hope she’d take the carrot I’d dangled in front of her.
A folder dropping in front of me on the table announced Brandon’s arrival. His eyes were grim when he sat across from me. “We found her.”
“Lana.” The look in his eyes gave me an uneasy feeling.
“Chelsea Varner. Her name showed up on a flight manifest that left for Cancun not long after the robbery.”
“Well,” I began, attempting to keep my irritation from coming across in my voice, “that would have been useful a few months ago.”
Brandon scowled and flipped through the folder. “Her return flight landed a few hours ago.”
“So much for greeting her at the airport,” I snapped.
He slammed the folder shut and glared at me. “Will you shut up already? We cross-checked the flights against each other and found that she was seated beside Crandall Covington each way. In first class. A call to his hotel confirmed he checked in with a woman matching her description. I’d say it’s a pretty good bet she’ll be staying at his house.”
“Do we have an address?”
Brandon tossed a few dollars on the table for my coffee, probably not wanting to wait while they ran my credit card since I never carried cash, before standing up. “The directions are in my car.”

Oh My!!! Had a bit of a heart attack there!!!
When Brandon ‘looked grim’ when he said they found Chelsea, I thought she was dead!!
Looking forward to seeing how that little visit goes…..
Hope to see you Friday!! xxx
Well, she could’ve been dead, but then they wouldn’t have a shiny new lead to follow. She could always die later.
Ugh…Friday may not happen. If it does, it will be late, late Friday (my time). If I can’t get the new chapter up over the weekend, I’ll post an extra day next week to keep us on schedule. It’s been a crazy hectic week around here.
