It took Sara another ten minutes after Nika left to screw up enough courage to leave the bathroom in search of Michael. For all she knew, he’d already left with Jess. Sara ducked into the bathroom to get away from all the chaos outside. This was possibly the worst party she’d ever been to. Why couldn’t she just have one normal conversation without things turning strange?

The smart thing to do would be to get out there to help keep everyone in line. The chances of Nika truly having things under control were slim at best. Right now, there was too much tension swimming between too many different people for her to be on top of things. She’d need Sara’s help.

As more people started to arrive, Sara was grateful the Siskins had a large house with plenty of bathrooms. She’d been able to salvage he makeup in the bathroom she’d fought with Michael in without anyone bothering her. She didn’t look as good as she had when she first got there, but if nothing else, people would just think she was coming down with a cold.

Ignoring the lingering drowsiness spreading through her satisfied limbs, Sara forced herself to dress quickly. This whole thing was ridiculous. No one ever liked being snowed in, but her friends had planned to stay the entire weekend anyway. With the exception of Jane – whose annoyance she understood – the rest of them had no reason to be melting down like this was the last civilization on Earth.

Something was wrong. She could sense it the moment she opened the bedroom door. There were no sounds of running water. Sara had spent long enough talking to Nika that Paul should already be in the shower by now. What the hell was he doing?
