Parker let his cell phone ring only once before he answered it. He could count on one hand the number of people who had this number and he didn’t want to talk to any of them right now. Unfortunately, not answering a call from any one of them would be a fatal error at this stage of the game.
“I’m taking a risk in calling you now, Ramsey, so I hope you have something good to tell me,” a gruff voice demanded.
“I’ve made contact with a little lark and I think things should run smoothly and according to plan.” Parker put more confidence into his voice than he felt. Skylar being in and Skylar being useful weren’t exactly the same thing.
“Can you be certain? I would not have expected she would be pleased to see you.”
“She won’t be a problem for us. I’m a good con man and she won’t have any idea what we’re up to until she’s already in too deep.”
“See that she doesn’t, Ramsey. I’m taking a big risk on you and I assure you that she had better not cause me any problems.”
Parker cleared his throat before speaking. “Look, it was my call to pull her into this. You don’t have to worry about a thing.”
“For your sake, you had better be right about that, Ramsey. You had better be right.”
Perfect. Thinly veiled threats. The cornerstone of any successful partnership.
“Either you trust my judgment or you don’t. I know what I’m doing. If you want this score to go down in your favor, we need her to play her part.”
“Don’t get cocky, Ramsey. I think we both know I don’t trust your judgment. Make one wrong move and you’ll find I can make things very uncomfortable for you.”
“Considering my circumstances, that would be a feat.”
“You have no idea what tools I have at my disposal to make that happen. Just get the plan on schedule and contact me once you have something positive. As I’ve said before, you don’t have much time to save your skin. Clock’s ticking.”

Well, it technically could be Raptor he’s talking to since the only person who says Raptor wants him dead is Parker. Then again, it could be anyone. I mean, I’m not even done introducing characters yet.
But Skylar’s a big girl. I’m sure she’ll be okay while playing with all the criminals…

I am on the edge of my seat atm to see which character Parker was on the phone to…..it can’t be Raptor (can it??…lol…), as I am assuming Raptor would be killing him (again??), let alone working with him……..
