Raptor hung up the phone from the morning’s most recent call and drummed impatient fingers on the expansive desk. Time enough for one more call before he got on with the façade of his day. He knew it was still too early in the day for Chill to be up, but time was a luxury he didn’t have right now.
The prospect of a good heist always hyped up his system.
When he answered, Raptor said, “How do you maintain any sort of clientele if it takes you that long to get the phone?”
Chill couldn’t hide the surprise or the grogginess in his voice when he spoke. “Most of my clientele keep the same hours as do I.”After a beat, “It has been a long time, Raptor.”
“That it has, that it has.”
“Does this mean the rumors are true and your hasty retirement is at its end?”
“As usual, you’re well informed. I’ll need a crew, standard size.”
“That will not be a problem. It has been slow around here of late and you should have your pick of the crop.”
Exactly the way he liked it. “What do you know about a con named Songbird?”
“I know Songbird is a woman and an excellent planner. Plenty of connections.”
“Good,” Raptor said. “I have to go out of town for a few days, but see if you can get something set up with her when I get back.”
“I will see what I can do, but she is not big on face to face meets.”
Prima donna cons were a dime a dozen in Raptor’s world. He could break her down to agreeable compliance, of that he was certain.
He heard a soft knock at his office door. “See what you can do. I’ll be in touch.”
Raptor hung up the phone as his assistant entered his office. “The car is here to take you to the airport, sir.”
“Excellent. Keep my schedule light for next week. I’m anticipating some last minute appointments to hit the books.”

I may have to go back and have a re-read. I don’t think Chill knows of Skylars(Songbirds) vendetta against Raptor…if memory serves it’s only Parker who knows……
If only Raptor knew who he was about to get into bed with – so to speak…….

Nope. Chill doesn’t know who Songbird really is, but he does know she’s working with Parker.
Thanks! I’m a few thousand words behind right now, but I had to cram a LOT into the prologue and first few chapters (chapters in this are longer than they are on here), so I’m hoping the writing pace will pick up a bit now. If nothing else, I’m happy with the way the plot’s unfolding.
