Monday, March 22
Jackson glanced at the clock on his desk and realized it was finally late enough to call the Collin County prosecutor’s office. He grabbed his cell phone and went into one of the conference rooms, pulling the door closed behind him. Even though there was a phone on his desk, it was too out in the open and he didn’t want Dinsley to walk by and find out that he was going outside the Bureau to find out about him and the case.
“Good morning, Jenna Monroe’s office,” Trista said once she answered the phone.
“Good morning, Trista. How was your weekend?” Jackson asked, making small talk despite his hatred of it.
“Better than yours, Jackson.” Trista’s tone meant she clearly already knew about Friday night. “Do you want to talk to Jenna? She’s here already.”
“No, thanks. I was hoping to just leave a message for her. I don’t think she wants to talk to me right now.”
“You’re reading her all wrong, you know, but I’ll take the message.”
Besides being Jenna’s assistant, Trista was also her best friend. If anyone knew what was on her mind, Trista would be the one. Jackson was tempted to ask for her advice, but he thought better of it. He had never been the sort to put his love life out on display and he didn’t intend to start now, no matter how much he might need the help.
Of course, he had serious doubts that he still had a love life where Jenna was concerned.
“I wanted to let Jenna know who our suspects were before to see if she was able find out anything about any of them.” That sounded flimsy to his own ears, even though there was truth to it. He was looking for any shred of anything to give her reason not to lose his number.
“I still think you should tell her yourself, but go ahead,” Trista chided.
“Trevor Brightman, Eric Sauters and Drake Wyndham.”
She whistled. “Wow, you sure know how to pick ‘em.”
“I guess so.”
“Is there anything else you want me to tell Jenna for you?”
Jackson considered that for a moment, but didn’t think it would be a good idea to relay apologies through her. “No, thank you Trista.”
“Suit yourself, Jackson, but take my advice. Jenna is going to come around. She loves you and we all know it. It’s just going to take her a little time – especially since you turned into Captain Dickwad on Friday. What were you thinking, anyway?”
“I wasn’t,” he admitted.
“Clearly. Calling a woman you just slept with a sadistic psychopath isn’t the most endearing pillow talk I can think of.”
“I didn’t say that.”
“Whatever. Close enough. It really sounds like your bedroom skills have gone rusty since last fall.”
“Excuse me?”
“Well, maybe I should say your bedroom conversation skills. She actually said there were no complaints in the physical department.”
Did he really want to hear the dissection of his sexual prowess from Jenna’s best friend? It was bad enough she clearly already gave Trista the play-by-play. Rather than encourage the current conversation, he remained quiet.
Her sigh came through the phone loud and clear. “Are you sure you don’t want to talk to her? She told me to put your call through.”
“She knew I’d call?”
“Well, she’s not stupid. It wasn’t like you were serious when you told her to lose your number.”
“I was when I said it.”
“Yet here you are calling her bright and early on a Monday morning, using the pretense of business to cover.”
Jackson remained silent.
“Look, I’m sure you’ve noticed by now that she tends to hold onto things for a long time before letting them go. Hang in there. You know she’s worth it, even if you’re too stupid to admit it.”
Hours later, Trista’s words were still fresh on his mind. At least it was somewhat reassuring that he wasn’t still on the bad side of Jenna’s closest friend. Trista made her anger very clear to him when she found out he’d lied to all of them about who he was.
Jackson only hoped she was right this time. He wasn’t ready to turn the page on the chapter of his life with Jenna in it.

Yep. A lot hinges on what’s going on in Jenna’s head right now.
I guess we just have to hope that Jackson didn’t do something stupid when he stormed out of there Friday night that’s going to come back to bite him in the ass later…

Hey hun…..Good to see there is hope left…(atm anyway..lol..) between Jackson and Jenna.
I’m glad to see that Trista has softened towards Jackson, and is trying to encourage him to persevere.
You are right, Jackson would do anything to be with Jenna, all she had to do was tell him what she needs, and/or how she would like things to progress, and I’m sure he would be on board.
Of course, that may prove difficult, if Jenna herself doesn’t know how she wants to play things out…….
You’re doing great hun…xxxx…..*phew* all caught up……lol….*hugs*
