The Freelancer – Chapter 74

Chad paced around his apartment aimlessly. It appeared from last night’s events that his plan failed. Why wouldn’t this guy give her up? His plan should’ve been foolproof. Read more »

I knocked on Jenna’s door slightly past seven. I took Collin’s words to heart. It was all for the best, but that didn’t make it any easier. My heart didn’t have an off switch the way hers did. Read more »
“I just don’t get it,” Jenna complained after they ordered lunch.
“Get what?” Trista asked.
“Jackson. This whole weekend was perfect, but he was completely cold to me last night. I don’t understand what I did to piss him off.” Read more »

“You have to pull it together,” Collin said to me after I told him about what happened with Jenna. Read more »
At ten o’clock, Jenna knocked on my door. I debated whether or not to let her in, and scolded myself for even having the thought. Over the past hour it finally occurred to me how much easier this made things. I spent too much time being concerned with how she would react once she found out I was with the FBI, but none of that mattered anymore. Now that I knew the truth about her, her feelings were off the table. I couldn’t toy with Blackstone, but she was fair game. Read more »
After assuring Trista we would find Maureen, she left to go back to work in case she called. Collin left right after that to get a team briefed about the disappearance. I tried to spend the rest of the afternoon looking over the maps I had of the airport to determine the best placement of agents, but I couldn’t concentrate.
At eight o’clock that night, Jenna still hadn’t returned home. Read more »
Hey, y’all. I wanted to take the opportunity to wish everyone Happy Holidays. Whether you’re celebrating Christmas or Chanuka or Yule or just waiting to ring in the New Year next week, I hope everyone has a safe and happy time.
Just a couple of quick announcements:
Enjoy your holidays,
Jen
Jenna’s heart leapt into her throat at the sound of her brother-in-law’s voice. Daniel was the last person she wanted to see on a good day and this wasn’t a good day. He’d had a way of seeing right through her since they first met and she didn’t have enough time to make him understand the severity of what was going on. She turned to face him and was met with a fierce glare. Read more »
“What do you mean she isn’t there? I thought you told me she would be at home all day, Jackson,” Collin said in shock. Read more »
With the new year nearly upon us, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the future of this site. I’ve come to some decisions, but more importantly, I’ve realized I need your help. Here’s the plan for the coming year:
Once The Freelancer comes to an end, I’ll start posting the next novel in the series, currently titled The Alliance. More info on that one will be available as the current story starts to wrap up. (Obviously, I can’t give away the ending by talking about the sequel, now can I?)
I’m not sure what to do once Love Will Lead Us is over. Should I post another original story or do y’all want me to repost more fan fiction? If it’s the latter, which one do y’all want next?
But I’m not content with just writing online. It’s time for me to pull together a story worthy of submitting to publishers. I’ve already got a few novels I’m choosing between right now, but this is where I need your help. If anyone’s interested in reading a manuscript as I write it (via email), please let me know. I’m joining two professional writing organizations in January that offer critique groups, so I don’t necessarily need someone to educate me on refining my craft. Really, I’d rather have a reader’s perspective on it. (But if you really want to gripe at me over a misplaced comma, that’s okay, too.)
And of course, if you have any other thoughts or suggestions, I’d love to hear them.
“What are you doing here, Jen? I wasn’t expecting to see you until the weekend,” Elaine said in surprise, hugging her sister. Read more »

“Caldwell, please tell me I didn’t hear you correctly,” Banks said, fighting to remain calm. Read more »
She could scarcely breathe. Nothing about this felt right. This was Paul, after all…not Michael. Read more »
“Are you going to answer me or look at me like I’m insane?”
“Look at you like you’re insane.” Read more »
Jenna was going stir crazy. It was a long day for her. She hadn’t imagined missing Jackson the way she did. Read more »
